THE LITERARY EDGE

A living community for mission-driven writers ready to discover the magnitude of what they’re holding, and bring it into being.
JOIN NOWYou’ve done everything right.
You’ve read the great books and studied them deeply in service of craft. You’ve attended industry workshops, made pilgrimages to sacred places for generative writing retreats.
You believe in the power of a good book to effect change by shifting the perspective of your reader.
But you still feel stuck. The book doesn’t work, and you can’t see a way forward.
You may wonder, Why has everyone else figured this out? What have I missed?
What if you’re not stuck because you’ve fallen short, but because there is more for you than the story you’ve been trying to tell? More than the frameworks you’ve inherited. More than the standard shapes that have been handed down as the answer to every story’s problem.
What if the resistance isn’t failure,
but the book itself, refusing to play small?
A TREND I’VE SPOTTED
Writers who can’t finish their books aren’t stuck because they don't have the right tools. They can’t move forward because they can’t yet see that they are carrying a message for the millennium.
No one has helped them see the magnitude of their potential, because the writing world is tethered to an old story at a time when literature is poised to shift gears, to create a different kind of impact that will not only help heal, but transform the collective.
I know this not only because I’ve watched it happen, but because I lived it in my own writing life.
I’ve shared my tender pages with the greatest of writing teachers and coaches. And every one of them helped me become a stronger writer.
- But no one could see that my memoir of shepherding a child through a severe, sometimes life-threatening mental illness, was tethering me to the past and dragging my readers through it, as well.
- No one could see there was a greater mission through a deeper healing that was familial, ancestral, tribal.
- Or that the old battle between the hero and perceived enemy, the individual triumphal arc that has marched through literary history, was begging to be replaced with the kind of transformation that heals at a cultural and even planetary level.

MY INVITATION TO YOU
During the year I lived on Cape Cod,
I felt the power of being on the edge of the continent,
Where information drifted in on the winds and the water.
And where I learned that First Nation people referred to themselves as
First to See the Light.
First to see the sun come over the horizon.
That moved me.
Â
To stand on the edge of something,
To see the light ahead of everyone —
That is what we aim for as writers,
To lead the way,
To share a fresh perspective,
To start a new conversation.
Â
The world needs your vision and voice.
There is no later, better time.
The time to shine your light is now.
